The placenta soup

It may be gross to some but the nutritional values cannot be discounted. Many of us may not know the real reasons for eating it but if it is well prepared and tastes good. Who cares where it came from ?

The animals do it and in some society they eat their own placenta's after giving birth. This practice is known as placentophagy.

It is a believed that the nutrients and chemicals can help mitigate the hormones which can cause postpartum depressions.Whatever the reasons , it is a custom in some society and they believed it will help and improve the mother's health .

The Chinese likes to cook everything with herbs. This item may one day appear on the menu as a special dish in some restaurants.

They may not name the dish as placenta but in some other exotic names .
It could be touted as the soup that will make you beautiful and feel young again..

The Chinese believed in the regenerative powers of organs. The placenta may contained substances which could improve the woman’s strength , beauty and health or return to her what was taken out from her. This concept is off course too bizarre at the moment but some scientific studies have shown that is the truth.

The English version of this culinary delights ;into the roasting pan, put one onion, red pepper, tomato sauce, bay leaves, pepper, salt and a clove of garlic… and 1 to 3lbs of placenta..

It is not a crime to eat it ,but it is a matter of perceptions .
In some society, they will take the placenta home to be buried in their gardens .
The Hawaiians bury the placenta and plant a tree over it.

Most Chinese just leave the placenta in the hospital and they are sold to those cosmetic companies to make into skin care products.

Placenta is an organ meat expelled soon after a birth. Placenta has a springy texture similar to the heart, but more sponge-like.

Whilst Human placenta has a taste akin to a mild liver, many beef recipes work well with human placenta. A human placenta typically weighs 1/6 of the baby’s weight.

To prepare placenta, cut the membranes away with a sharp knife. Wash if desired. Treat the placenta as you would any other meat.
